ARRANGER NOTES — This haunting melody is based on the ancient Dorian mode rather than a major or minor scale, and does not include either chord symbols or a rhythm chart. The tune is so ‘pure’ that writing an intro. almost seemed unnecessary (and almost intrusive). There are also no modulations since they would have seemed somewhat contrived. However, there are three full verses—the first one including just the simple melody and some basic harmonies.The second verse (beginning at bar 13) features fuller harmonies and should be played more boldly and mezzo forte. In the final verse (see bar 24) there is more movement surrounding the melody, although the simplicity of the arrangement remains. No part of this setting should feel rushed, so be sure to take your time with it!
